The St. Regis Atlanta honors the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic and the Atlanta location's third anniversary at 100 Years & 100 Bottles—a complimentary cocktail reception to be held Tuesday, April 10 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Recognizing the history and tradition of the St. Regis brand, the event commemorates St. Regis founder Colonel John Jacob Astor IV, who was on board the Titanic at the time of the sinking.
“We look forward to welcoming the local community and hotel guests to join us in honoring the remarkable life of John Jacob Astor IV and the St. Regis brand’s storied history on the centennial of this historic event,” commented Simon Rusconi, General Manager of The St. Regis Atlanta.
History
100 Years & 100 Bottles takes place on the centennial of the RMS Titanic’s ill-fated maiden voyage. On 10 April 1912, the luxury liner departed Southampton, England bound for New York City with Captain Edward J. Smith in command. She struck an iceberg four days into the crossing, sinking in the early morning of April 15. What ensued was an international tragedy, claiming more than 2,000 lives, including that of John Jacob Astor IV and his loyal butler Victor Robbins.
The St. Regis brand was founded by John Jacob Astor IV with the landmark St. Regis New York in 1904. In tribute to John Jacob Astor IV, 100 Years & 100 Bottles will honor the St. Regis legacy of tradition, innovation, and American luxury.
100 Years & 100 Bottles Cocktail Reception
Beginning at 6 p.m. in the elegant St. Regis Astor Ballroom, guests will be witness to an extraordinary feat—Sommelier and Wine Director Harry Constantinescu will saber 100 bottles of Heidsieck champagne, the same label served to guests aboard the Titanic. The celebratory practice of sabering champagne dates back to Napoleon Bonaparte’s French cavalry and has also become an established St. Regis tradition.
Guests will enjoy passed champagne, signature cocktails, and special hors d’oeuvres inspired by the last dinner served aboard the Titanic.
Centennial Cocktail
In honor of the anniversary, throughout the month of April, The St. Regis Bar will serve an exclusive signature cocktail. The Centennial includes 1912 Madeira Verdelho Reserva, Domaine de Canton ginger liquor, Krug Rosé Champagne, and Breckenridge Bourbon to honor Colonel John Jacob Astor IV who fought with General Breckenridge in the Spanish-American War. The indulgent Centennial Cocktail is garnished with an edible orchid which was the favorite flower of Caroline Astor, mother of John Jacob Astor IV. The cocktail is priced at $100 and includes a commemorative St. Regis champagne coupe.
Special Menu at Paces 88
Following the cocktail reception, guests are invited to dine at Paces 88 where recently appointed Executive Chef Joseph Trevino has created a series of special dishes inspired by the last dinner served aboard the Titanic. Guests can enjoy these exclusive dishes à la carte along with the regular Paces 88 menu. For reservations, please call (404) 563-7910.
Empire Suite Package
For the month of April, The St. Regis Atlanta will offer an exclusive Empire Suite room package for $3,300—the same price of the deluxe parlor suite aboard the Titanic. The package includes a bottle of Heidsieck Blue Label Champagne, breakfast for two at Astor Court, and complimentary valet parking. Seven day advance reservation required.
Legacy Afternoon Tea
Throughout the month of April, The St. Regis Atlanta will celebrate its third anniversary with the Legacy Tea to honor the heritage of the St. Regis brand and respected Astor family. Afternoon Tea is an enduring tradition started by Caroline Astor, mother of St. Regis founder John Jacob Astor IV. Enjoy fine teas paired with savory petite sandwiches, freshly baked scones, pastries and petit fours, all presented with impeccable service by signature St. Regis Butlers in tuxedos and white gloves.
