Some salad dressings beat the competition, inside and out. 

Braswell's most popular all-natural dressings are now packaged in distinctive, reusable glass serving carafes. Available flavors include Italian, Raspberry Vinaigrette and Vidalia Onion Peppercorn, a personal favorite.

To make re-using the carafes even easier, the company also sells salad dressing mixes--just add vinegar, oil, milk, mayo or water following the instructions on the back, shake & serve. Mix flavors include Ranch, Italian, BBQ Ranch and Basil Vinaigrette.

This year we introduced our new Extra Virgin Italian Dressing & Marinade. Again, we looked at what was available and knew that we could offer something better. We start with smooth extra virgin olive oil and mix in a bold blend of Tuscan spices. It's completely sugar free and makes an amazing marinade for all meats, seafood and vegetables.

Much will be made of the drink menu built by beverage director Belinda Chang, a James Beard award-winning pro. Comprised of carefully selected draft beers, boutique wines, andseasonal, handcrafted cocktails, it’s a great list. But her "Build-Your-Own Cocktail Kit" will get the most press. Because it's unique, at least for the next 10 minutes.

The kit is a bin packed of syrups, sodas, herbs, bitters, fruit slices and tincturesplus all the tools you'll need to shake, swizzle and stir things up. It arrives with a 2-ounce pour of whatever base spirit you picked (such as gin, tequila, vodka, bourbon, whatever). And then you get to make your own cocktail, or perhaps impose your creation upon an obliged date who might say, "Yep, this is good," smiling through the knowledge that there will be no second date. Unless you happen to actually be a skilled cocktail creator and/or conversationalist.

So, my advice is to order what's actually the best drink on the menu, with the added bonus that you don't have to make it yourself.

It's "just right" in terms of sweetness, balance, complexity, individuality, fun, and just about every measure by which to judge a cocktail.
